The tea Kettle

I bought a new tea kettle last week. My old one broke (ben failed to mention that until I was complaining that it was strangely missing from my stove). Anyway my new kettle whistles when the water is ready. I decided I wanted to try it out so I was heating water yesterday morning for Kyles oatmeal. Ben is in his office, the kids are all eating except kyle who is doing his homework. I'm packing lunches. The kettle starts whistling and sadie looks up wide eyed and starts freaking out. "what is that? what is that noise? where is it coming from?" I told her it's the kettle saying the water is done. She starts screaming. Literally at the top of her lungs shrieking. Yelling for me to turn it off. I was in the middle of making a sandwich so she can wait a second right?! ok she's still shrieking. Maddie starts crying, Zach starts yelling for me to turn it off. I say no just a minute. sadie is now getting up to leave the room Zach picks up his full bowl of cereal and throws it. I start yelling at him, ben comes in thinks it's pretty funny and said something like "Ahhh we're gonna blow" kyle is staring at us like we're crazy. Wow that was eventful. Now i know my new favorite consequence. They have to listen to the kettle whistle :)

Lately....

Here are the most recent noteworthy things at our house

1. On Thursday Zach played outside for awhile. About an hour later i'm sitting at my computer typing an email when i hear yelling outside and lots of banging on my front door. I figured it was kyle so I started yelling It's open just come in....but when I opened my door if was one of my neighbors saying that some boys just stole Zach's scooter and took off through the elementary school. Oh no they didn't....i don't run on my treadmill for nothing I'm going to get them. So I take off running after scooter boys...but i'm in slippers and they fall off so I think took off my socks and took off barefoot. they weren't stealing my little boys spiderman scooter. not today. When i got to the school field I saw that they were all the way to the school there was no way i was going to catch them so i screamed "give me back my scooter and kept running." THEY DROPPED THE SCOOTER and took off! I totally got it back. Man I felt awesome for a minute. Then my feet were freezing and I was out of breath...why is it so much harder to run in real life?! Then I wondered if they were going to come back and key my car or something.

2. I went to Sam's Club earlier in the week and I love getting big drinks from there...cheap and they have the best cups (Styrofoam) and the best ice. So I get out to my car put it in the cup holder between the front seats. Before I even drank out of it I stopped at another store and maddie wanted to get out "my side". That means climb over the front seat. She was wearing her rainboots. Anyway she climbed over and kicked my cup...but she kicked a hole in the cup. seriously. it was pouring out. She looks at it and says "not me mom, not me".

3. Last week Zach got home from school and was in the garage looking at this collection of pictures ben has. Then he came inside and said "mom cool you went swimming with red eyed monkeys?" At first i wasn't really listening and just said "yeah" then he said it again how cool that is. I said "Wait what?" What are you talking about? He said "you in the pool with that red eye monkey...in the picture" So I made him show me. This is the picture he saw (I cut myself out of it on purpose but look behind me in the picture..

In the background is my youngest brother Tyler when he was like 8. This picture is slightly lighter because I took a picture of it but the one in the garage just looks like his head. Or apparently a monkey head with red eyes. I died laughing. It's my happy thought :)

Poof

came across this picture and thought it was funny...do you know what that glowing poofy mass in the middle of the picture is? Yep Maddie's head. you can't snuggle her without having to blow hair out of face because it's so big :)

Snow Show

Ok Sadie's class had the kindergarten snow show a couple of weeks ago. I ALWAYS cry at anything that involves my children on stage singing. It's kind of embarrassing. the kindergarteners sang fun songs, made LOTS of snow man art, and picture books, even a little snowman sculpture. At the end Sadie served us cookies and hot chocolate. Maddie spilled hot coco on the floor (it's our tradition zach spilled at kyles...i guess maddie will do it again next year when it's zachs turn....will I then have to spill at Maddies....yes I dream of her being in school :) ) It was a fun day.

Wind.

Last night was pretty windy. Right as I was falling asleep I hard a loud crash against the house. I got up and looked through some windows (since it was a full moon it was pretty bright) but didn't see anything. Of course ben didn't wake up...the house could explode and he would sleep though it. Anyway this is what I saw this morning when I went outside....

thankfully the gutter stopped branch the limb from going through my window right below it.

it is seriously a limb...no a dagger. ben saw it and after looking up for awhile he says (this is no joke) "is that going to be a problem?" i think he's in denial he has to get up on that crazy steep roof with a rock wall below :) this is one thing me and my purple tool kit from Christmas ISN'T fixing. (yes my parents actually got a me a tool kit and yes I was really excited about it :) i can never find the correct tools in bens mess :)

Mental Images

I thought this was really funny. Tonight Kyle saw in my email that a book he is excited to read (the second in the Indian in the cupboard series...) came on the hold shelf. Here is our conversation:

Kyle: Will you please go get it tonight from the library

Me: No, I don't have time I'll get it in the morning

Kyle: Please I really want to bring it to school

Me: Why do you need to bring it to school

Kyle: So I can get better mental images

Me: staring at him

Kyle:the books that I read barely give me any mental images

That was the weirdest response ever. but funny. I guess the goosebumps series isn't giving the mental images he hoped for. I've gotta run now....to the library
