Today .... ugh

The title of this post says it all. there's nothing more I can say. ugh.
I am THE WORST MOM EVER. don't worry you don't need to reassure me that I'm not. It's just the facts. I've accepted it. ben's out of town makes everything so much worse sometimes. Starts off like any other day. Can't get everyone moving finally we get drop Sadie at school only 5 minutes late, and head to the gym. But Zach wants to go home. Not a good sign. But he ended up only going in time out once .... yes sadly that's a great day for him.
Then it's a quick trip into Walmart. A few weeks ago I was washing my crockpot, it slipped out of my hands in the sink and shattered. Thought I could live without it but I can't. so we grabbed a new one and lost zach at the checkout for a few minutes.
I was supposed to pick my neighbor up from school with kyle and guess what. I forgot. Until the teacher called me and asked if I was supposed to be getting him. Luckily he only waited about 10 minutes extra since I ran out my door and was there in a minute.. But I felt REALLY bad.
Then it was on to McD's for dinner. But in the first 5 minutes Zach hit a kid that was blocking his path, and I was told he is being too "abrasive" with the little kids to be there. so we ate in the lobby while i fought back tears.
Finally we make it home, kids in bed at 7 and I get on the treatmill. All is good. Until i give maddie a bath and set her on my bed while i go get her clothes. She manages to fall off, hit the open drawer to my nightstand and almost poke her eye out, or go blind. Hopefully she's ok. but a little baby shouldn't have hurts like this. but she still smiles. even though she is now blind. ok not really but she's been grabbing at toys while i cover the other eye. so i think she is ok. that's my diagnosis.
THEN while i'm worried if she can see or not Kyle comes out of the bathroom (he was put to bed 1 hr 30 min ago now) anyway he was in there a long time. i said what are you doing. He said well i was looking at my ear in the mirror. It just feels funny. So i said Let me see. Oh yeah I'm not sure why it feels weird at all. maybe it's the huge piece of mechanical pencil eraser shoved down his ear opening. for real. I didn't think i could get it out but finally i did. thanks to the jagged edge of him biting it. So i take a quick glance in the other ear. Surprise there's some there too. Wow it really doesn't get better than this. I need to go to bed. Tomorrow will be a new day. A new day with a baby that has a black eye.

Basketball

Wow I'm behind. Maybe I'll have time to catch up this week. So many other things to catch up on though. So after this week it's been 2 months of 2 workouts a day- gym for an hour in the morning then running at night i'm up to 45 minutes on the treadmill which for me is a major feat. plus the running. i'm not a runner. i am now i guess. more like a jogger :) nobody says it looks pretty but it's been paying off I guess.
So Kyle's been playing basketball for the past 2 months as well. He is a great hussler. We just have to work on not ball hogging - we give big shouts and cheers in the stands for passing! :) What else is new. Maddie can now sit up for about 20 seconds. FINALLY man that took forever :) She was eating babyfood a few weeks ago but then changed her mind and hated it. so we've stopped for a few weeks. But I do feel successful because tonight she used a different bottle. To me that is the first step in her taking only bottles-when i can pull a switcheroo on her. Hopefully we'll be on to that in the next month.

New Kitchen

Before
After

2 weeks ago ben and I hung new light fixtures in the kitchen. We've been wanting to for some time and just now decided what we want in there. I have always wanted a hanging pendant light over my island so we converted one of our can lights into on to match the light over the kitchen table. The first time we every changed out a fixture it took like 3 hours or more. ok mostly because ben said he'd do it but didn't read the directions and just did but couldn't get it to hang touching the ceiling. Like 2 hours later I came in read the directions and fixed it. That's just one of the many "Man Roles" that I do well :)

Snow Show

A few weeks ago Kyles kindergarten class had their "Snow Show". The whole family was invited to come and watch the kids sing some songs, see a slide show of pictures during the year (interesting to see how your child is without you :) ) and have cookies/hot cocoa. I got these cool cookie cutters for christmas that you can slide letters into the middle so they can say things. I made big snowflakes that said Mrs. Lapp's Snow Show stamped into them. I was impressed with myself :)
We talked about the snow show for like 3 weeks before it actually came. Kyle was really excited. Turned out Ben was going to have to work during it so he couldn't go, but ended up showing up at the school just in time. Kyle is quite the performer....with some pretty good dance moves.

I love them and they're mine

How many times have I gone to the store and heard "Are they ALL yours?" In my mind I think what a dumb question. I want to come back with "Do you think I'd be HERE if they weren't ALL mine? Would I subject myself to such torture as taking them ALL to the store if I didn't have to?" really they all look practically the same....and I wouldn't scream at children that weren't mine right?! Also I get "you're done right?!" whether I am or I'm not is not you're concern - what does it matter to you....I don't like leading questions like that.
So I must look so out of control that people feel the need to help me parent. "Oooh sit down in the cart or else you'll fall out" Please if I had a nickel for every time I heard that with Zach alone I'd be rich. It would have done him good to fall out..... I'm not kidding. :) or "don't run in the street" "wait for your mom" " was that your kids running up and down the ramps (during Sadie's ballet)" "oh please put that away you can't eat in here - I can't stand when people talk to my kids when it is intended for me. the other day in Target a lady told me i shouldn't leave my purse in the front of the cart....while i was HOLDING on to the back. That time I only had Maddie with me. Maybe there is a sign on my back that says "I would like you to tell me what you think".
Well for all these months I've been irritated at people saying these things to me CONSTANTLY. The other day we were at storytime. Zach did amazing....i think it was the first time he just sat there for the entire thing. No pushing or hitting just sitting. The room is in the back of the library. By the time i got my stuff and my kids zach had ran out of the room. Ok not just that but out of the library and by my car!!! Thankfully a friend was there to bring him back. Then it dawned on me- I really am out of control. Wow . So next time someone runs over to my cart to help my children or watch in horror as zach climbs out I won't glare and say "he's fine". ok maybe i will the time after that but for now I won't.
